MOTW: Yummy Mummy by Butter London

The most perfect nude of all time? Perhaps. The most boring MOTW photo of all time, due to said nudity? Perhaps.

What are you wearing on your nails this week? What is your favorite nude nail polish? I’m always on the lookout for new ones to add into my rotation…

MOTW: Pink Pong

Sometimes, after crazy colors and finishes and whatnot, I just feel like my nails need a breather. A palate cleanser of sorts. And Pink Pong by Sally Hansen (part of the Complete Salon Manicure line, which is amazing) is my go-to for a nice, quiet mani…

Nothing outlandish or exciting to see around here – just the most perfect pinky-nude shade for my skin tone. This is only one coat, so there is some definite VNL, but I actually like it sheer like this.

MOTW: The Impossible by OPI (Liquid Sand)

A bright textured polish for you this week…

MOTW OPI liquid sand

Gorgeous, right? The Impossible is an older Liquid Sand shade from OPI (part of a quick TJ Maxx score I made the other week) that was part of the Mariah Carey collab that they came out with in early 2013. I’ve linked to The PolishAholic’s original post and swatches so you can see all of the gorgeous colors in that particular collection.

The Impossible is a jelly-type polish that dries down to sparkly matte perfection and it builds up beautifully – the picture above is just two coats, with no top coat. This will also be a great pedicure option, I’m thinking – I really like textured polishes on my toes during the summer. They are just a little different and they also last for weeks, even with lots of sandal wearing.

Review: Butter London FunFair Fashion Set (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale)

Let’s be honest – I need more nail polish like I need a hole in the head. But as far as bad habits go, I figure buying adorably mini bottles of nail polish ranks far lower than say, drugs, alcohol or even cigarettes.

And out of all of the lovely things that sang their siren call to me during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, this was the one beauty item I absolutely had to have. I LOVE Butter London and rounding out my collection of BL with some great minis seemed like a good idea. Besides, she reasoned to herself, I’ve been wanting to buy at least 3 of these shades for quite some time, and it’ll be much cheaper to do it this way.

Pictures ahead and then some thoughts. Side note – the set is still available on Nordstrom’s website, for those of you who are swapping out some bad vices for some slightly less bad ones…

The Essentials – Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat (l) and Hard Wear P.D. Quick Topcoat (r)

I’ve used half of these so far – the base and top coats, along with Macbeth, Slapper, and the Petrol Overcoat, and they are absolutely top notch, creamy, full coverage formulas with some major staying power. All of these things are what I’ve come to expect of Butter London, so this set does NOT disappoint.

A few of the shades surprised me – in person, Brick Lane is much prettier, and La Moss is absolutely stunning. It looked a little too dark and vampy to me from product pictures, but it has rosy undertones that make it a knock out.

If you are looking to round out your nail collection, or just love to hoard Butter London like I do, I absolutely recommend this set. The base and top coat are top notch as well, which is always nice to see. Sometimes I feel like brands that have a great color selection (as BL does) can overlook the basics. That is not the case here.

The Friday Five [1.13]

Here at birdie&bijou INC, we love nothing more than a good feed reader. When Google Reader was discontinued, we thought we’d never get over it (#firstworldproblems). But we quickly gravitated to feedly, and alls well that ends well. We bookmark/save a TON of stuff – things we want to read again, things we want to share with others, things we want to refer back to and use or try someday. The Friday Five is our way of sharing some of what we’ve been reading with you. So without further adieu, it’s Friday, and here are five thing we think you might enjoy!

1. We’ve been bookmarking a lot of nail-related stuff lately. This may end up being an entirely nail-focused Friday Five – stay tuned. First up, an easy polka-dot tutorial from Miranda at Slashed Beauty. Loving this orange and pink combo, and thinking we may have to give this one a try over the weekend.

2. This infographic from Refinery29 is the best we’ve seen at summing up all the things you need to remember when painting your nails, from doing a horizontal “sweep” to keep tips from chipping, to using a slanted brush to remove excess polish from the skin.

3. Nude + glitter = manicure win. We’ll be adding this look from Gotham Polish to our weekend nail to-do list as well.

4. We don’t know about you, but we’ve definitely got a stash of nail wraps tucked away in the back of the designated polish drawer. We haven’t dipped into them in quite a while – not sure why, just enamored with regular polish lately – but Into the Gloss is making us want to go there again, as Liz Lemon would say.

5. Beautylish asks, ever choose a nail polish because of the name? Why yes, all the time, in fact. A look behind the curtain at how exactly those names get picked. Dream job, right there.

+1 Friday Flashback: We did it – all nails, all the time here at the Friday Five. For a final fun flashback, here’s a look at Chelsea by Julep, the very first MOTW we ever did (before coming up with that acronym). Try not to laugh at our claw hands…

Have a beautiful weekend!
