A WalMarts Mini Haul…

I’m conflicted about WalMart, and I want to be upfront about that from the very beginning. I won’t go into all the reasons why here, but I highly recommend that everyone read the book “Nickel and Dimed“, if you haven’t already.

Long story short, I hardly ever go to Wal-Mart, and when I do, I try to get in and out as quickly as possible. There are products that I can only buy there, and that’s the only reason I go. It never ceases to amaze me how cheap everything is – but then I remember that those prices come at a price, so to speak.

Side note: being in Wal-Mart never fails to remind me of the scenes from the movie Wall-E, with abandoned super stores everywhere and humanity in ruins. Is it just me??

ANYWAYS. Sorry to start that out on a downer note, but I wanted to get that out of the way. My pretty-much-holy-grail dry shampoo, Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, is always in stock at Wal-Mart, and I’ve actually never been able to find it anywhere else. So I went to pick up a can, and also took advantage of being there to check out the exclusive-to-Wal-Mart Flower Beauty, the makeup line from Drew Barrymore.

Here’s what I picked up:

Flower Beauty Eyes on the Prize Eyeshadow Chubby in Keep Your Pansies On: I spent a LOT of my shopping trip perusing the Flower Beauty area. There are innovative products in gorgeous colors, with really beautiful packaging that you don’t really find at a lower price-point. There are a lot of different products that I’d like to try out, but I ended up getting this eyeshadow chubby in a gorgeous dark plum color. It’s perfect for darkening the crease for a more dramatic eye look, or worn on the lash line and smudged for a more subtle look.

Revlon Nail Enamel: These were on clearance and I couldn’t resist. I picked up Scandalous (pictured on the right above), a black jelly with raspberry shimmer and flakies; as well as Rain Forest (pictured on the left above), an amazing dark green packed with green glitter. Both of these are probably more fall/winter colors but I don’t care, they are gorgeous and unusual. Birdie’s already borrowed Scandalous, and you can see the MOTW results here.

Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo: My true love and the one I always come back to – it’s just amazing-ness in a can, people. It refreshes my roots, doesn’t leave a white cast, and also gives a nice pump of volume for second day hair.

L’Oreal Shampoo & Conditioner minis: I’ve been wanting to try the Advanced Haircare line since it debuted a year or so ago – but just haven’t gotten around to it. Figured the minis were a good way to start.

Tresemme mini Dry Shampoo for gym bag: Confession, I’ve tried this before and hated it – but decided I was willing to give it a second chance because it says right on the bottle that it’s a new formula with no residue (please don’t make a chump of me). Plus, I really needed a mini dry shampoo for the gym bag, and this was the only one available.

Do you use and love any of the products? Anybody else feel squeamish about the occasional Wal-Mart shopping trip?

Cheers,

Walgreens Balance Rewards Haul

I’ve posted before about my deep and abiding love for Walgreens. We get all of our prescriptions and the majority of our household/personal care items there, and I try to take full advantage of their Balance Rewards program, which means that I end up with a ton of points that I inevitably use on “fun” stuff.

walgreens points order
This is a rewards haul from Walgreens that I ordered earlier last month. I was able to take advantage of a 20% off personal care coupon (they run these promotions all the time online, so I really don’t make an online purchase and use up my points unless I also have a coupon for a certain % off my order). After the coupon, my total was $53 and change. I redeemed 40,000 Balance Rewards points (equal to $50), so I basically got all of this for $3. And change. Whee!!

From left to right:
Fekkai Dry Shampoo (travel size)
Neutrogena Visibly Even BB Cream in Light/Medium
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream
EO (Essential Organics) Coconut & Vanilla bubble bath
Calgon Ageless Bath Milk Serum

This order was a combination of stuff I’ve had my eye on (I’m looking at you, Neutrogena BB Cream!), products I already know I love (the Neutrogena Night Cream, as well as the EO bubble bath, although this is a scent I haven’t tried yet), and a few things I just had to try (Ageless Bath Milk Serum – how could you not be utterly intrigued by that name alone? As well as the Fekkai dry shampoo, because I love Fekkai products and I love dry shampoo, so hopefully this one’s a winner!).

How about you – any good drugstore hauls lately? Any drugstore products you are loving that you think I should try out?

Cheers,

MOTW: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel is HERE!

Not technically a MOTW for you this week, but I’m so excited and I can’t remember being this excited for a product launch in a long time. Technically released at the beginning of July, I believe, but I’m just starting to see magazine ads, newspaper coupons, and actual store displays, at least in my area.

SH miracle gel birthday suit

The two pack was definitely the way to go, economy wise. And I figured a good nude polish is always a good place to start. But there are so many amazing colors in this line, I’m definitely going to be trying as many as I can get my hands on.

How about you – picked up any great polishes lately?

Cheers,

A High Street Wish List

Last month, a good friend of mine was traveling to England. Putting my intense jealousy aside, I immediately thought of a way she could make it up to me for traveling to my favorite place in the world without me – bring me back some Brit beauty goodies!

After perusing some of my favorite British beauty blogs and doing some investigative research on Boots UK website, here’s the wish list and instructions that I sent over…

1. Bourjois Paris Happy Light Matte Serum Primer – only comes in one color, just be sure to get the *matte* version and not *radiant*.
2. L’Oreal Paris Miss Manga Mascara in Violet – they just came out with this here, but not in the colors. And violet looks so fun!!
3. Max Factor Face Finity All Day Flawless 3 in 1 Foundation in “Natural” or “Beige” (whatever you thinks look like the best fit) OR Bourjois 1,2,3 Perfect Foundation in “53 Beige Clair” (just one or the other – whatever is cheapest or you can find)

The only thing I love more than a good British drugstore find? Sending passive-aggressive emoji texts…

boots haul

Here’s the final result of the haul – this was a pic of my goodies to tide me over until she actually got them packaged up and in the mail to me. There was much rejoicing throughout the land when they finally arrived – I’ve been using all three regularly and will be reporting back with an in-depth review soon!

How about you – any beauty goodies from abroad that you are coveting?

Intrigued: Neutrogena Visibly Even BB Cream

Look what I spotted, in the June issue of Glamour…

Intrigued Neutrogena BB Cream
Neutrogena Visibly Even BB Cream…This is the first time I’ve seen an ad that I can recall, although some online research indicates that it initially came out in January of this year. Has anybody tried it yet?

I have a long history with Neutrogena – I used their skincare and makeup almost exclusively throughout my late teens and early 20’s, and I still find myself coming back to their retinol products now that I’m – ahem – much older. And I really like the idea of these makeup/skincare hybrids. Even on the days when my skin is behaving itself and I don’t need (or want) heavy coverage, I still have uneven skin and pigmentation issues from old breakouts, as well as some sun damage. Would *love* to combat those problems, especially if the results would be long-term. I’m thinking I definitely need to score this on my next drugstore haul.

Have you seen or tried this one? Let me know – I’m intrigued!

Cheers,
birdie
