2014 Sephora Sun Safety Kit

Sidenote: This is our 100th post!! We know we aren’t the most consistent beauty blog around, but we really and truly love beauty products and beauty-related things with all our hearts, and have SO much fun writing about them. We have no idea who is reading and/or if you like us, but we like you! This blog is a fun project for both of us and a great way to babble on about beauty without scaring friends and co-workers.  =)  Love ya, birdie&bijou

And now, back to our regularly scheduled post from birdie…
Annually in late spring, Sephora releases their Sun Safety Kit, which features deluxe samples of skincare and makeup that have SPF, in addition to other “sun safety” products. This is the eighth edition and they always have an incredible value (see my calculations below for this year’s kit value) and an incredible array of products.

This was my first time purchasing the kit, and I’m so glad I did. It includes brands I already love (Tarte, Fresh) as well as brands and products that I’ve been wanting to try out (Shishedo, bareminerals). I’m a sucker for value kits like this, and I love having skincare samples to try out. There is nothing is worse than purchasing a full sized product and have it not work out for you, or ending up in a massive breakout.

Also, I finally made VIB with this order! The Eradikate was something I’ve been needing (unfortunately!) and helped me get to the free shipping threshold of $50. And I must say, it’s worth every penny – it dries those bad boys right up.

And here’s the Sun Safety box breakdown, per Sephora’s website:

What it is:
A kit containing 16 deluxe sample sizes of sunscreen, safe self-tanning, and bronzing must-haves, plus a convenient travel bag.

What it does:
Sephora and The Skin Cancer Foundation are proud to unveil the eighth edition of the Sun Safety Kit. One of Sephora’s most popular kits, this collection features a huge array of products for tanning, bronzing, and protection for glowing summer skin in a bright travel bag. $20 from the sale of each kit will benefit The Skin Cancer Foundation.

This Set Contains (All sample values calculated by me):
– 0.06 oz Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Daily Glow Moisture (Sample value = $2.52)
– 0.5 oz Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense® Lotion (Sample value = $12.35) – used this already. A little heavy, more like a traditional sunscreen, but doesn’t feel oily on skin and dries to a nice matte finish.
– 0.14 oz Too Faced® Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer (Sample value = $12) – used this already. Gorgeous color! Much more flattering that I expected, given how dark it looks in the pan. A little goes a long way.
– 0.3 oz Clarins UV Plus HP Multi-Purpose Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen (Sample value = $7.24)
– 0.33 oz Murad® Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA++ (Sample value = $7.67) – used this already. Anything with “mattifier” in the title and I’m IN. Mixed it with foundation to sheer it out and give me a nice, natural finish.
– 0.5 oz Tarte™ Brazilliance Skin Rejuvenating Maracuja Self Tanner (Sample value = $3.54)
– 0.23 oz Stila Stay All Day® 10-in-1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 (Sample value = $6.72) – swatched this, it seems very dark for me so will most likely be passing it on.
– Dr. Dennis Gross™ Alpha Beta® Glow Pad (Sample value = $1.60)
– 0.15 oz bareMinerals READY Touch Up Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Translucent (Sample value = $11)
– 1.69 oz St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse (Sample value = $18)
– 0.5 oz Origins A Perfect World™ SPF 25 Age-Defense Moisturizer (Sample value = $12.06)
– 1 oz Supergoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (Sample value = $11)
– 0.64 oz Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ For Face (Sample value = $10.66)
– 0.5 oz Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 20 (Sample value = $22.50) – Used this today, actually. It’s on the heavier side (for me) so I’m thinking I will move it into my fall/winter skincare rotation. Algenist is a great brand though – I’ve really liked everything I’ve ever tried from them.
– 0.08 oz Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 (Sample value = $12) – I own the full sized version of this and love it. Always happy to have some extra Fresh lippies around.
– 0.5 oz Ole Henriksen Protect the Truth SPF 50+ Broad Spectrum UV Protection (Sample value = $10.29)
– Travel bag (I’m going to assign this a value of $5, because its just so dang cute!)

Although the advertised “value” is $177, I’m getting $166.15 including the cute bag, for a total value of $186.15 when you consider the fact that $20 from each purchased is donated to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Really incredible value, and I’m glad I finally snatched one up this year.

How about you – have you purchased this kit in the past, or did you buy it this year? What have you used and/or what are your favorite products?
